Gerard trained in orthopaedic surgery in Perth, Western Australia and undertook post-fellowship training in knee, foot and ankle surgery in Sydney, North America and Europe.

Gerard is a knee, foot and ankle reconstructive surgeon including arthroscopic and replacement surgery.

Gerard is a Clinical Associate Professor in orthopaedic surgery at the University of Western Australia. His research interests are in regenerative medicine and with a special interest in autologous tenocyte and chondrocyte grafting.
